We were really praying for good weather for this stop and luckily we got it. We had an excursion booked for this stop and we anxious to see how things went as we were putting our lives in the hands of a family owned, local company. We got off the boat and looked for our excursion and right off the bat everything was as they said it would be. We were even more relieved when other people from our cruise got in the van with us. We set out on a 50 minute drive to our destination and right from the beginning our tour guide started telling us all there was to know about Belize; he was AMAZING!
The drive through Belize was different than I expected. There weren't many houses and most of the land was a swampy mangrove type vegetation.
Pretty colored houses on the coast
We finally made it to the preserve where the caves were and we go geared up to go cavetubing!
We hiked for about 30 minutes through BEAUTIFUL rainforest! Morgan kindly carried my tube the last part of the way so I could take pictures :)
The cave system that we would be going into was used by the Mayans!
Before we got on the tubes we swam in between the two caves. The water was beautiful and felt quite warm. For some reason I just love swimming in placed like this!
Off we go...
After we got through the cave we kept floating down the river and our guide rubbed some river rocks together and made all the girls make-up :) He also pointed out a tree those leaves created "All Spice," it smelled really good!
After cave tubing, the company took us to their "corporate office" and we had homemade Belize food- chicken, coleslaw and rice and beans. I didn't taste the chicken or the coleslaw because of the baby but the rice and beans were AMAZING! Seriously, I have never tasted something so good before. We also got authentic Belize Coke which was delicious!
The company that we went with was called Cavetubing.bz and we couldn't recommend them more highly! We had a great experience and felt that we really got to explore the native Belize!
